The Battle Cats review
Frederick Clark
The Battle Cats is a hilarious tower defense game for mobile devices. Created by PONOS Corporation and released in 2011 in Japan. Yet, only in 2017, the improved version of the game was fully released in the US.
Gameplay 10/10
The game has a creative storyline about adorable cats that you may love. The new world is filled with cats. And you control a small army of fluffy pets yourself. Your main goal here is to protect your territory against other cats and numerous intruders. To recruit your own army is simple. Just tap on the cat you want to sign up.
Your feline companions must protect a stronghold that is equipped with a cannon boasting extraordinary powers, such as deceleration, immobilization, and dousing adversaries with sanctified water, all of which are advantageous when combating the undead hordes. Each cat possesses distinct skills. These can be enhanced up to a maximum of level 10.
You begin your adventure with nine initial cats, each of whom can have their talents and capabilities expanded. The cats must engage in combat on your behalf, defeating a multitude of foes. Staying connected is essential to refresh their energy reserves. Triumphing in battle earns you treasure. Gathering these treasures enables your cats to undergo evolution. The confrontation concludes when one side's forces overrun the opponent's tower.
Graphics 10/10
There is a 2D battlefield where you have to send your cats’ army. It looks rather simple, without any developed extraordinary landscapes. The cats are different in shape and look and sometimes remind me of entirely fantastic creatures. They are all white, and some of them may look like other animals. Yet, the graphics are unique, and it is hard not to appreciate them. The picture perfectly fits with the sounds.
Replay Value 9/10
The Battle Cats game has numerous levels and a system of rewards. You can progress there without paying anything for as long as you want. There are Legend challenges and a story mode that leads you through everything that happened with the human race cats and explains the purpose of your own actions. However, after some time, you may find the game a little bit repetitive.
Controls 10/10
Originally designed for iOS and Android mobile platforms. There's no need to register to start playing immediately. However, you must remain vigilant against the assaults from your adversaries. Regardless of your warrior's strength, they can be defeated by the enemy. Pay attention to your army's energy levels, as every minute spent in combat depletes this energy. Remember to replenish it regularly. With a little practice, you'll soon master the various special maneuvers and strategies within the game.
Conclusion
The Battle Cats is extraordinary and fun to play the game. It attracts the attention of everyone who loves cats, space invaders, or tower defense genre. The game offers you to lead cute and at the same time weirdly looking army of cats. You have to protect your territory and destroy your enemies. Defend your positions, master your army’s skills and enjoy new challenges.
