Storm of Demand: How the Steam Controller’s Launch Sparked a Resale Frenzy

The Steam Controller made its debut yesterday, following an announcement last week that revealed its release date and $99 price tag. Although the news initially generated excitement, the launch quickly became a subject of concern for those who follow industry trends closely.

Every single controller sold out within just half an hour. It wasn’t only the avid PC gamers in need of an upgrade; resellers, known for their opportunistic practices, wasted no time in taking advantage of the situation. Current listings on popular resale platforms show these controllers priced as high as five times their original retail cost.

Many sellers have also started offering the first iteration of the Steam Controller from 2015 at similarly steep prices. This appears to be a strategy aimed at deceiving unaware buyers who might mistakenly end up purchasing the much older model at an exorbitant price.

Valve has not provided details on when additional units will be available, but it is likely that more stock will arrive soon. Until then, it is advisable to make thoughtful purchasing decisions rather than contributing to inflated resale practices.
