GOG's Grand Plan: Reviving Classic Gaming Legacies from Console to PC
- 20/09/2025
The discussion centers around plans for expanding GOG's dedication to preserving timeless video games, with ambitious sights set on the iconic titles from Nintendo's past. The company, renowned for its commitment to game preservation, remains true to its mission while exploring new territory.
Over the years, GOG has cultivated a reputation for championing the legacy of beloved games. Their Dreamlist presents an array of titles they aspire to host on their platform—even if some selections, such as a famous platform adventure, appear to be more aspirational than immediately attainable.
A conversation with a senior public relations representative from the company shed light on upcoming strategies and future ambitions. During the discussion, the representative highlighted that even though current efforts concentrate on PC gaming, the broader objective is to evolve into a central hub for classic games from all historical platforms.
The representative emphasized that the present focus on personal computers does not preclude the integration of console treasures. They noted that as PC ports of games originally designed for consoles become more common, it seems only natural for the reverse process to occur. Recent instances have already shown well-known console titles making their way onto the platform, suggesting a shift in industry trends.
Additionally, advancements in console emulation are making it increasingly practical to enjoy vintage console titles on computers—a possibility that was far more difficult just a few years ago. Although some entries on the Dreamlist may currently feel out of reach, they clearly reflect the passionate wishes of the gaming community, prompting GOG to consider each aspiration carefully.
Classic favorites have found new appreciation on GOG, with well-known examples receiving updated attention. However, bringing these cherished games to a modern platform requires lengthy negotiations, as ultimate control resides with the intellectual property owners. While it remains uncertain whether similar arrangements will be struck with Nintendo, there is hope that the aspirations outlined in the Dreamlist may one day be fulfilled.
