Ninja Gaiden 4: Reviving a Franchise with a New Collaborator and Game Pass Accessibility
- 27/01/2025

There has been much anticipation surrounding the next installment of the Ninja Gaiden series, particularly in light of recent developments. Prior to yesterday's Xbox Developer Direct event, rumors began circulating about a new Ninja Gaiden entering the scene. Many fans speculated that with Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound on its way, Koei Tecmo would refrain from launching two titles from the same franchise within a single year, fearing it could create confusion and dilute the impact of both games.
Despite these concerns, Koei Tecmo took an unexpected route. Alongside the stealth announcement and launch of Ninja Gaiden II Black for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Series S/X, which is available through Game Pass, they also revealed the eagerly awaited Ninja Gaiden 4, set to debut this year. Notably, Ninja Gaiden 4 is being developed not by Team Ninja, but by PlatinumGames, and it is also included with Game Pass.
The occasional addition of major third-party titles to Game Pass occurs a few times annually, yet remains a relatively uncommon event. This begs the question: why has Ninja Gaiden 4 materialized?
Recent insights indicate that Microsoft played a crucial role in bringing Ninja Gaiden 4 to life, with Xbox Game Studios serving as the publisher. According to marketing manager Aaron Greenberg, the groundwork for this partnership was laid during Xbox leader Phil Spencer's visits to Japanese development teams years ago.
In a discussion with Team Ninja head and producer Fumihiko Yasuda, the excitement of reconnecting with the Xbox community was palpable. He reflected on their historical collaboration, especially during the early Xbox and Xbox 360 periods with titles like Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden. He expressed enthusiasm about presenting the latest chapter to Xbox players and emphasized the significance of Game Pass, which enables a wider range of people to interact with this much-anticipated release.
Ninja Gaiden 4 is scheduled for launch this fall on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X, further enhancing its accessibility through the Game Pass platform.
